The wire harness design and selection of the wire type focus on the environment and function of the wire harness. For example, the ambient temperature of engines and electrical appliances is high, and there are many corrosive gases and liquids. Therefore, we must use high-temperature, oil-resistant, vibration-resistant, and friction-resistant wires;
The wire on the luggage compartment cover of the car should maintain its elasticity at low temperatures, so it is necessary to use a wire with good cold elasticity to ensure its normal operation;
The wiring harness on the automatic transmission must be resistant to high temperature and hydraulic oil, and its temperature stability must be good;
Weak signal sensor wiring harness should use shielded wires, such as knock sensor and crankshaft position sensor, ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness, etc.;
The wire harness inside the door requires high bending resistance.

The temperature of the car's environment plays a crucial role in the selection of wires. Each area on the vehicle has its own ambient temperature, usually 85°C for the cockpit area and 105°C for the engine compartment. But every automobile manufacturer has its own environmental temperature standard.
The wires commonly used in automotive wiring harnesses usually use multi-stranded copper wires, and the insulation is made of PVC insulation material. The wires used in the wiring harness should have the characteristics of temperature resistance, oil resistance, wear resistance, water resistance, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and flame retardancy.
Commonly used wire types for automotive wiring harnesses include Japanese standard (AVSS, etc.), national standard (QVR), German standard (FLRY), American standard and other major series.
AVSS (AVS) wire is characterized by thin-skin insulation and good flexibility;
QVR is characterized by thick insulating skin, relatively soft, and good ductility;
German standard wire insulation is thinner and flexible;
American standard wire insulation is generally thermoplastic or thermosetting elastomer, and it is processed by irradiation technology. The appropriate type of wire can be selected according to the needs of users and different working environments.
